How to Host Garden Parties in Spring

The way I dream about a stunning outdoor party. A huge table stretching the length of a garden. Beautiful pops of color in florals cascading the table. Don't even get me started on umbrellas! And while the weather in Texas holds only a brief window for welcoming guests outdoors in comfort, it is something I wish for you all to take advantage of.

Here are some of my top tips for creating a memorable moment for you and your guests:

  1. Keep everything light - From the chairs at the table to the dessert served at the end. Use light colors, light fabrics, a light menu. Keeping things light helps stave off heat, even if only in our minds.
  2. Don't skimp on the shade - Not only do large umbrellas staggered behind your guests at the table make for a huge decor staple, but they also provide comforting shade throughout the evening. Scattering cocktail tables and umbrellas throughout the yard, and offering a reprieve inside is also a good way to keep guests staying for hours!
  3. Refresh from the front door - Don't underestimate the power of a refreshing drink right from the get. If you don't have someone passing trays for a welcome spritz have a bar cart at the front door with an alcoholic and non-alcoholic drink option.
  4.  Provide fans - A hand fan is a stunning take away from any event, and for smaller parties I love to have them painted with the guests names.
  5. Think about food placement - Something we struggle with in Texas is flies. I once hosted a baby sprinkle that ended with us fanning the food all day to avoid pesky flies. I was mortified! If you are going to host fully outdoors make sure you have food covers and chaffing dishes on hand. Nothing ruins a lovely day like swatting bugs away.

I hope these simple tips help make your outdoor dining experience one to remember, and a new joy to take part in with your loved ones and friends.
