Hosting an event comes with a long list of task to complete before the first guest walks through the door. Here are a few things I like to get done the day before, and a few that you should always wait until the morning of on to have your party run smoothly:
Hosting Tasks To Do The Night Before
- Iron Your Linens: A must at any event is making sure your linens are crisp and pressed! This is a great task to accomplish the night before. And when hosting at home you can go ahead and set them all out to keep them in pristine condition.
- Lay Out Your Outfit: This one has less to do with event decor and everything to do with your last 15 minutes. As host it is so common to use up every moment prepping the party only to be left undone yourself. Make sure you have a game plan for what you are going to wear, how you will do your hair and make up, etc. the night before.
- Prep Food and Drink: Use time the night before to prep any food and drink that can be held in the refrigerator or sit out overnight. I even like to go as far as to prep on serving trays that I will be using when it is doable. A good layer of saran wrap that can be cut off right before guests arrive helps save time running around before.
Hosting Tasks To Do The Day Of
- One Last Good Sweep: The last thing I like to do before guests arrive is give my home or event space one last good sweep. While getting ready things are bound to drop and get messy, this ensures you are putting your best foot forward for those coming to the party.
- Immediate Goods: I like to break event decor into two categories - Immediate and non immediate goods. Immediate goods are things like ice, candles, flowers that can't sit out longer than the span of your event. Since all your non immediate goods were prepped the night before, spend the morning perfecting your florals, lighting your candles, and all those fun final touches!
- Outdoor Decor: No matter how great the weather might seem, always keep your outdoor decor set up for the day of, to assure none of it gets damaged or blows away before your event begins!
